references: Neville [I, p. 118: 1.- : "An interesting alchemical work of the philosopher's stone and the transmutation of metals, by the Abbé Belin (1610?-1677) a benedictine monk and bishop of Belley. His unsuccessful search for the philosopher's stone gained him notoriety under Henri III and Henri IV. Becoming embittered, he wrote a satire against alchemy and alchemists ('Les aventures du philosophe inconnu', Paris, 1646). However, in the present work he appears to have relented, as the praises alchemy and extols the virtues of the philosopher's stone], Guaita [1149 (avec le traité des Talismans et la poudre de sympathie en édition postérieure (1671): "Trois ouvrages rares qu'on trouve difficilement réunis"], Dorbon [5440 : "Ces trois ouvrages sont d'autant plus curieux que, quelques années plus tard, l'auteur change d'avis et, dans ces 'Aventures du Philosophe inconnu', se moqua des alchimistes.
